If you have a translation or original copy by someone whose mother tongue is not English, or a machine translation.

Editing involves:
- ensuring the text reads as fluent, idiomatic English;
- making sure the style is suitable for the target audience and consistent   throughout;
- paraphrasing lengthy paragraphs and omitting repetitions;
- ensuring figures and units comply with normal English usage;
- checking for grammatical or typographical errors.

PROOFREADING
Checking a text that has already been translated and/or edited for omissions and errors.

ABSTRACTING
When you don't need a full translation, but just need to understand the gist of a text. We can do this in writing or verbally over the phone.
